Ishan Misra, who earned a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute in 2018, received a 2025 Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) Young Researcher Award honorable mention at the IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). The honor recognizes early career researchers for distinguished contributions to computer vision.
Misra, now a director and research scientist in Meta’s GenAI group, was selected for his pioneering work in self-supervised learning and generative AI. His research has helped reshape training methods for computer vision models, reducing reliance on large labeled datasets and opening new possibilities for scalable, less biased AI systems.
The annual PAMI award, managed by the IEEE Technical Committee on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, includes a $3,000 prize and recognizes researchers within seven years of completing their Ph.D.
